Getting started
Install Rekody, open it, and it walks you through setup: the permissions it needs to hear you and to type for you, and a one-time download of the on-device voice model.
Stay on a network for that first model download. After it finishes, dictation runs fully offline.
How to dictate
- Start dictation. Rekody shows that it's listening.
- Speak. Your words appear live as you talk.
- Stop, or just pause — Rekody finishes on its own after a short silence.
- The text lands where your cursor is.
You can keep working while you talk. Rekody follows along and places the finished text when you're done.
Your data
Your audio never leaves your device. Your dictation history is stored locally, and you can delete any entry, or all of them, at any time. There are no accounts and no tracking. For the full picture, see the privacy page.
Troubleshooting
The text didn't get typed
Rekody needs your system's permission to place text where your cursor is. Open your system settings, find Rekody, and make sure every permission it asked for during setup is still on.
Rekody won't record
Check that microphone access is on for Rekody in your system settings. The app shows a reminder if it's off.
Dictation is disabled in a password field
That's on purpose. Rekody turns itself off in password and other secure fields. Switch to a normal text field and it comes back.
The first dictation seems stuck
That's the one-time model download finishing. Keep Rekody open and stay on a network. Your words are captured while it loads, so nothing you say is lost.
